Hello and Welcome to a long overdue update to my blog.
The last 9 months have been very busy and hectic times for us. We have introduced a Dental Therapist to our practice and two new trainee Dental Nurses (DN).
The General Dental Council (GDC) have upgraded the training requirements for Dental Nurses, to coincide with their upgraded professional status. Qualified DNs are now required to register with the GDC as profressionals which for them means new rights and responsibilities, joining Dentists, Dental Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Technicians as a team of "Dental Care Professionals" ( DCPs) regulated by the GDC.
What all this means for you is a highly professional team approach to your dental care.
At a practical level Dental Therapists are trained and qualified to carry out simple fillings which the dentist prescribes in detail, Dental Hygienists and Therapists ,once the properly sanctioned courses have been attended will be carrying out Tooth Whitening and taking impressions , again unbder the dentists direction and prescription.
All of this means that the dentist's time is freed for more advanced treatment which only dentists may carry out AND those items carried out by DCPs will cost you less.
Today I will be attending The Association of Dental Implantologist's Masterclass at the Royal College of Surgeons together with my wife Chris, a Registered Dental Nurse, Gill Mather our Dental Therapist and Nicky Smith our Dental Hygienist.
Dr.Henry Salama of Atlanta. Georgia, one of the world's top experts in the field, is talking about aesthetic excellence in implant dentistry. For you this means aiming to make crowns and bridgework supported by dental implants look as natural as possible.
